RETHINK CHURCH

LENTEN PHOTOS 2016: Week 1

February 11-February 17, 2016

During 2016 Rethink Church, a ministry of the United Methodist (Church) Communications, is sponsoring a Lent photo-a-day challenge based on reflections and perceptions of their word for the day.

Each Thursday during Lent I will post the coming week’s words and matching photos—sometimes with an explanation.

The words for week 1 of 2016 Lent, February 11-February 17, are voice, look, injustice, celebrate, settle, go, and mighty.

VOICE

Our God-given gifts—in the form of writing,

music, art, etc.—give us our voice.

LOOK

A dog (Mika) treed this cat, who recognized

our enemies are always after us.

We need to keep looking so we aren’t taken in by evil.

INJUSTICE

The core of Martin Luther King’s message, his dream, is that

injustice be conquered. MLK day 2016 in Greensburg, PA.

CELEBRATE

A celebration of Native American heritage.

Celebrate who God made you, no matter what your heritage.

SETTLE

111014 IMG_8213E

Gallipolis, Ohio, was settled in 1790 by 500 French emigres

who climbed a high bank at the edge of the Ohio River when

they arrived. They’d purchased invalid deeds from deceitful

land speculators who abandoned them to the wilderness.

Honesty is a value expressed throughout Scripture.

GO

It couldn't get in the garden, so it walked away.

It couldn’t get in the garden, so it walked away.

This deer decided to go away from our yard because

netting prevented him from ravaging our garden. You

might have had to go from where you couldn’t grow or

earn money for food. In Scripture nomads continually

moved to where their animals could find food.

MIGHTY

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

How mighty Mother Nature is. The ocean waves are

one example. This wave was captured at Old Orchard

Beach in Maine.
