It’s up to you to determine what years the statements were/are made. Do you believe they are from a recent magazine or that they are a blast from the past? (Answer at the end of this article.)Mr__Smiley_Face_svg

Will there be a (year X)

  • …(year W) has been that sort of year: blink twice, and the next thing you know, something near and dear has hit the fan. In short, few of us here can recall a year we were gladder to see the back of (year W)…Which leaves only the big question: Are We Glad To See The Front Of (year X)?

Newspapers are going to depress you

Television is going to irritate you

Legislation is going to infuriate you

Inflation is going to cost you

Whether you can cope is going to worry you

Ask Yourself:

  • what kind of shape your sense of humor is in
  • what regular doses of gloom, despair and catastrophe are doing to your sense of perspective
  • whether you want everybody from archbishops to anarchists telling you what you’re supposed to think about it.SadFace

The comments above are from an article published in Punch 24 December 1975-6 January 1976.151230 IMG_2346E
