OOPS—I CANNOT EAT THIS COOKIE
The following is a series of Facebook posts I made after I received a great birthday gift from my sister Sally on September 15, 2015, 3 months before my birthday.
I knew what it was—she’d mailed me one just like it last year and paid $24 postage. I told her never to do that again, so knowing I was traveling north and would be in the Lancaster/Buffalo area on September 15th and able to attend my older sister’s birthday party, she worked hard to prepare my birthday gift too.
On December 5 I began a Facebook countdown on opening my tightly sealed gift. Below are the captions and comments up to the big opening…and the big OOPS!
151204 SIX DAYS AND COUNTING DOWN…My sister Sally Lipsius Kilgore in Blasdell, New York, presented me with a much requested birthday gift at my sister Lee’s birthday dinner, She did it to save postage. When I lifted the box I knew just what it contained. I’ve shown great restraint in NOT opening it in the 3 months it’s been in my possession. However, I’m now at the countdown: 6 days to go. Do you think I will make it???? (7 likes)
151205 FIVE DAYS AND COUNTING—Sally Lipsius Kilgore (hereafter, just Sally)
I added this saying picture because it seemed right: Darlene Aslam, Pam, Alex (a birthday gift one year), David Lipsius, Amy Londraville—add your name if I missed you!
Sally I hope they are still good. You have great self control
Carolyn Cornell Holland (hereafter, Carolyn): Oh, they’ll be good. The others lasted really good until into late spring.
Sally: Good to know
151206 Sally FOUR DAYS AND COUNTING…

What is in this box?
Sally: I’m disqualified from guessing but I’ll be anxious for the final reveal
151207 Three more days and counting…
151207 My sister Sally Lipsius Kilgore in Blasdell, New York, presented me with a much requested birthday gift at my sister Lee’s birthday dinner, She did it ti save postage. Do you think I will make it???? What did Sally pack in this box? Can you figure it out? I wonder….3 days and counting down…
151208 Two more days…but who’s counting?
Eileen Fagan Ok Carolyn now I am getting excited for you!
Sally 2 days!!!!!!! 😬
Carolyn I hope Alan Gembola is paying attention. Two more days to your age transition too, Alan.
David & Kim Lipsius I thought you said you celebrated your Birthday in July, or some such?????
151209 One more day…only one more day…and the secret of the box I received Sept. 15th will be revealed. Keep your eye on my FB page tomorrow, Sally, because the world will know how you treat your sister when I open this box. Do you treat her naughty or nice? Santa’s waiting to find out.
Sally Okie dokie
151210 Zero days and going to minus one.
Marcia Gallineaux-Hubert (hereafter Marcia) Hope you are having a fabulous day!
Carolyn 151210 Birthday? What the heck? It’s 0 days and counting, and I still cannot open my package from Sally Lipsius Kilgore . We had a last minute appointment to go to, then came home to learn more about yesterday’s hacking into our e-mail account. Our e-mails were being diverted to a fake account set up by the hackers. So ’tis 4:00 pm and am still clearing up problems and fielding phone calls. Must resend a batch of emails for our Foothills Writers Christmas party tomorrow night. It’s the e-mails with directions to the party. So, y’all will have to wait for me to get to opening THE BOX. What a bummer!
Marcia Man!…..that should be worth a good story!….I can feel the energy!
Carolyn Read all about it—-LATER!
Shirley DaRold Happy Belated Birthday!
Finally—Day Zero—Dec. 10th, 2015 5:30 p. m.
Carolyn Arizona jeans?…but why the celephane?
Carolyn Ahh—oatmeal peanut butter cookies… (just what this writographer ordered)
Barb, a friend NO. You can’t eat this cookie (she’s slapping the cookie away from my mouth…). You haven’t done any work on your novel.
Carolyn Attention: Sally. Alan Gembola, hope your day was better than mine. Happy birthday.
Alan Gembola Forget that! Here’s a birthday kiss . . . smoooch!!!!
Carolyn Thanks, Alan. That improved my day, but the high point was Sally’s cookies.
Carolyn And, Alan Gembola,, I have no intentions on sharing these cookies with you. Even if we do share a birthday.
Sally I’m glad they’re still good. I hope they met all the expectations of the count down
Sandra Holland Murawski (hereafter Sandy) (my daughter) Save me some!!!
Sally She’s stingy with those things Sandy
Sandy I know…I’ll have to really sweet talk her!
Carolyn (to) Sandy You sure will. There’s almost 3 months of incentive and reward in that thar box. Don’t you want me to finish my novel???
Frederic Wells like the hat!!
Katharine What kind?
Carolyn Oatmeal peanut butter/chocolate chip.
Katharine Now that sounds like a recipe I would like to get a copy of. It covers all the bases especially when you need a pick me up.
December 13 Sally You made 97 cookies—one I ate for my birthday, 6 to share with Monte, Sandy, Jordan, Michael, and Lois (our special friend)…and the last to split with two friends in Laurel Mountain Borough—Mary and Joanne. The other 90 will provide me with one cookie a day (for each day I work on my novel). There are exactly 90 days in January through March—3 hard months of novel writing. Just right. The cookies are packaged 10 to a bag in the freezer. Thank you.
Carolyn You’re lucky I released one. Wasn’t it good? Maybe Sally will take pity and make you some…then you can share with your Mama.
Heidi Dent You know where we live
Carolyn Yeah. Let me know when you make cookies. I’ll be there,
Heidi You’re so silly! I do have some vanilla wafers
Carolyn Hmmm…since I don’t get to eat these until January…are you home???
KarlGail Reebenacker I want one
Carolyn If you traveled up here for a visit I’d give you one…just one. They’re worth coming here for.
